Double Your Impact with Employer Matching
Check with your workplace HR department to see whether your employer can match charitable contributions or offer other incentives. This won’t affect your tax situation, but it could potentially boost the impact of your donation. Some employers may also offer perks like paid volunteer hours, where you can volunteer your time for a local charity and still receive standard pay from your employer.
How it Works When you donate to Village, your company may match your donation.
- The Ratio: Most companies match at a 1:1 ratio (you give $100, they give $100), but some high-impact programs match at 2:1 or even 3:1.
- The Limits: Every company has an annual "cap" per employee (e.g., they will match up to $5,000 per year).
- The Deadline: Many programs require you to submit your matching request by the end of the calendar year or within a few months of the initial gift.
Will my Company match my contribution to Village?
While 65% of Fortune 500 companies have matching programs, eligibility for religious organizations varies:
- Open Programs: Many companies (approx. 66%) have "open" policies that include most nonprofits, including churches.
- Community Exceptions: Some companies that do not match general "church" funds will match donations designated for community services, such as our benevolence fund.
Steps to Take Now
- Check the Database: Most large companies use platforms like Benevity or YourCause. Search your internal HR portal for "Matching Gifts."
- Submit the Receipt: Once you make your donation, you usually just need to upload your digital receipt to the company portal. They handle the rest of the payment to the charity.
