Ideas have consequences, and bad ideas have bad consequences. In this light the Apostle Paul cautions us, “Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ” (Colossians 2:8). We live in a cultural moment where, seemingly, everyone has an opinion and where everyone is an expert. In such a time as this how can we thoughtfully “take care” so we’re not “taken captive” by bad ideas, but rather, taken captive by Christ?
We all have a worldview: our personal collection of beliefs and basic assumptions about reality. That’s not the question. The question is: how accurately does our worldview actually reflect reality? How accurately do we see the world as it actually is?
Our newest Theology Class, “Comparative Worldviews: A Battle of Ideas”, is designed to do just that, to equip us to develop a philosophy based upon the Person and Work of Jesus Christ, rather than on “the world.” This class is designed for adults, and we’ll explore via compare/contrast the basics of the following Worldviews: Christianity, Islam, Marxism, New Spirituality, Secularism, and Postmodernism.
